The "secret" transfer agreement between West Ham and Arsenal.?? Copyright,Hugh Monteith and Co.
I'm not sure if this character(s) , Twinhammer Network etc, is still around??

Anyway one of his claims was that West Ham would never sell players to Arsenal. Have we??

But we've certainly signed plenty of their dross over the years. Therefore I'd be loathe to take any of their players in part-exchange for Rice.

What Arsenal dross signing sticks in your memory?

John Radford was an early one.

Just before?

Last time a network personality was on here, the idea of Rice moving was around, but Chelsea were the favourites to sign him. Arsenal were nowhere

It’s funny how they’ve all given up on here just before all this Rice stuff?

Maybe there was an end date to the agreement and it’s just passed?

Or not…

I don't think Spurs have ever bought a player directly from Arsenal.

If you are talking about Brady coming to us he came from Ascoli. Apparently the chairman there promised loads and delivered little. Celtic came in late but he had already shaken hands with John Lyall.

Stewart Robson was an interesting one. I remember him as a good player but when you read the books quite a few players think he ruined the flow of the team because he was trying to do everything and held the ball up rather than ping it off first time. Half the players seemed to love him and half hated him.

Hartson was unplayable for a year and a half but must have struggled with his weight as time went on. Pity because he and Kitson were a great striker force for a few months. Hartson bullied Sol Campbell in that windswept night game against Spurs.

Jenkinson was OK as was Lansbury. Both loans though.

Robson, Hartson, Fabianski and Winterbun were/are OK

Suker and Wiltshere shit.

Ljunberg was OK when he played not shit.

Brady didn't come direct but via Inter I believe.Allen and Adebyor came via other clubs.

I don't think Spurs have ever bought a player directly from Arsenal.

It's not true anyway.

Back in the mists of time, we sold two of our best players to Arsenal, and they played in the Arsenal team that later knocked us out of the FA Cup.

Montieth tried to argue this away by saying that the players in question signed for Thames Ironworks, but we were definitely West Ham when we sold them.

I'm not going to rediscover my sources for this, but someone else who's interested enough to be bothered might

Didn't Cottee have a choice between Everton or Arsenal? Plus if memory serves McAvennie had a choice to come back to either West Ham or go to Arsenal and I suspect he thought George Graham wouldn't appreciate his visits to Stringfellows as ,much as John Lyall! The irony being he ended up with Lou Macari as manager a few months later and of course Arsenal went out and brought Ian Wright instead. Sliding doors moment in football.

We've sold plenty of our better players to all of the other "bigger" clubs (with the exception of new money Man City who we've sold a few average/ older players).

It is an anomaly that the arse have never bought a player off us, at least for a very long time, but nothing to do with what the fantasist hugh monteith says obviously.
